50's day

We celebrated the 50th day of school by having a 50's day party. We rotated to different centers that were themed around activities from the 1950's. The children read Dick and Jane books, played pick up sticks and Jacks, hula hooped and jumped rope, and even went to a pretend drive in movie. We finished the day by going to a sock hop. The D.J. played music from the 1950's. We danced and danced!!!

Conner Prairie

We went to Conner Prairie. It felt like we were pioneer children living in 1836. We got to participate in many hands-on activities, such as, candle dipping, and wool spinning. We played with pioneer toys too. We learned how to grind corn and string apples. It was a fun day!

Fire Safety House

The Galveston Fire Department came to our school to teach us about fire safety. They brought a mobile house designed to teach children fire escape techniques. The house was filled with nontoxic water based smoke so that we could practice "low crawling" to safety.

Grandparent's Day

We had so much fun on Grandparent's Day. We played sight word bingo with our grandparents. We read to them too. They could not believe how well we are reading! We presented our Halloween play to them also. The biggest hit was our math double rap song. We sang the doubles rap and then, we sat with our grandparents and they helped us manipulate the doubles math wrap!

King Tut's Treasures

We had a great time seeing King Tut's treasures at The Children's Museum. Before our trip we read many books about King Tut's tomb. We saw many pictures of his treasures and we studied about the men who discovered his tomb. We had a special center day where we participated in many activities pertaining to King Tut. The children were excited that they recognized many of the treasures that we had studied.
